MTTP INITIAL (4 DAYS)

The Medication Technician Training Program (MTTP) is a comprehensive course designed to educate unlicensed staff on the safe and effective administration of medications in community settings. This training is essential for staff working with agencies licensed by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) in Maryland, ensuring that individuals receiving care are supported with the highest standards of medication management. The curriculum also covers critical topics such as recognizing potential side effects and documenting medication administration accurately. SKILLS CHECK

Skills Check is designed to evaluate and reinforce the clinical competencies required for safe and effective medication administration. The course ensures that Certified Medication Technicians meet state regulatory standards and facility policies while delivering high-quality patient care.

MTTP REFRESHER

MTTP Refresher Training is essential post-onboarding training designed to reinforce the knowledge and skills acquired during the initial Medication Technician Training Program. This training helps close any knowledge gaps and introduces additional relevant information to enhance participants' understanding of medication administration. The importance of refresher training lies in its ability to boost productivity and employee satisfaction, ensuring that staff are confident and competent in their roles. By revisiting key concepts and practices, this training fosters better performance and adherence to safety standards. Additionally, it ensures ongoing compliance with regulations and best practices in medication administration, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the individuals receiving care.

MANDT

The Mandt System is a relationship-based program designed to foster trust and healthy interactions through training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. It can be applied in various settings, including schools, workplaces, healthcare facilities, and law enforcement agencies. The program emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining healthy relationships rooted in trust, respect, fairness, and integrity. Participants learn effective communication skills that enhance their ability to connect with others and resolve conflicts constructively. Additionally, the Mandt System teaches early intervention strategies to help de-escalate potentially violent situations before they escalate, promoting a safer environment for everyone involved.

DDA CORE TRAININGS (VIRTUAL)

• Bloodborne Pathogens: In this course, students will explore bloodborne pathogens, including their various types, transmission methods, and exposure risks. This course discusses protective measures and prevention strategies. Additionally, it will provide guidance on how to respond if exposed to blood or body fluids.
• Fundamental Rights for Direct Support Professionals in Maryland: The core principle of fundamental rights emphasizes that every individual has "the right to be treated with courtesy, respect, and full recognition of human dignity and individuality." In this course, you will gain a thorough understanding of what fundamental rights are and their significance. We will also explore various strategies to support the individuals in your care as they exercise these rights.
• Supporting Individuals and Families in Making Choices for Direct Support Professionals: In this module, you will explore effective methods and strategies for supporting individuals in making their own choices. Emphasizing the importance of autonomy, the training will guide you in fostering an environment that encourages individuals to express their preferences and make informed decisions. This course will also discuss common choices that individuals face in their daily lives and learn practical tips for assisting them in the decision-making process. By the end of the module, you will be equipped with the skills to empower individuals to take charge of their choices, promoting greater independence and self-determination.
• Aging and the Special Needs of the Elderly for Direct Support Professionals: This course will explore the aging process and address the unique needs of the elderly, particularly those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students will gain insights into the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging, along with strategies to support healthy aging in this population. It will also cover essential topics such as age-related challenges, effective communication techniques, and the importance of promoting independence and dignity. By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate care and support, fostering healthier aging experiences for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Communicable Diseases: Identification, Treatment and Prevention: In this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of communicable diseases, exploring their definition and the various factors that contribute to their spread. This course will discuss the biological agents responsible for these diseases, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites, as well as the key differences between these pathogens. You will also learn about prevention strategies, emphasizing the importance of vaccination, hygiene practices, and environmental controls. The course will address how to effectively respond to communicable diseases, including recognizing symptoms, understanding the chain of infection, and identifying modes of transmission. You will be equipped with knowledge on appropriate actions to take in case of exposure and how to notify relevant authorities.
• Communication Skills for Direct Support Professionals: In this training, you will explore effective listening and communication techniques to enhance your interactions with others. You will learn how to create a supportive environment that fosters open dialogue and understanding. Additionally, the course will provide strategies to help individuals with developmental disabilities improve their communication skills. You will discover various methods to encourage self-expression and build confidence, enabling these individuals to engage more fully in conversations and social situations.
• Principles of Behavior Change for Direct Support Professionals: In this training, you will explore the Principles of Behavior Change, focusing on different types of behavior, both voluntary and involuntary. We will examine the factors that influence these behaviors and their impact on the individuals you support. You will also learn effective strategies for managing behavior changes. This includes methods to encourage positive behaviors and address challenges, equipping you with the skills necessary to support individuals in reaching their goals and enhancing their well-being.
• General Characteristics - An Introduction to Developmental Disabilities: In this course, you will explore the general characteristics and needs of the individuals served. The course will begin with an overview of developmental disabilities and then take an in-depth look at four common types: intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and autism spectrum disorder. This comprehensive approach will help you understand the unique challenges and support requirements associated with each condition.
• Individual Planning for Direct Support Professionals: In this course, we will explore Individual-Directed Outcomes Oriented Planning for Individuals (IDOOPI), a person-centered planning method designed to prioritize the unique needs of each individual. Our focus will be on equipping caregivers with the skills to actively listen and comprehend the wants, needs, and desires of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. By understanding their perspectives, caregivers can create a more supportive and responsive environment. Additionally, we will discuss practical strategies for helping individuals articulate their goals and aspirations. Caregivers will learn how to assist in setting achievable objectives and developing action plans that reflect the individual’s preferences.
• Promoting Community Integration and Inclusion for Direct Support Professionals: This course will delve into the concepts of Community Integration and Inclusion, often referred to as Community Membership. We will explore the importance of enabling individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities to connect with their communities in meaningful ways. Additionally, the course will provide strategies for helping these individuals actively participate in group activities and foster a sense of belonging. By the end of the training, you will be equipped with the tools to promote inclusive environments that encourage community engagement and support individual growth.
• Incident Management in Cases of Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation: This course will examine the various forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation that unfortunately occur frequently in support communities across the country. As society evolves, there is a growing emphasis on systematically preventing these incidents and ensuring they are accurately addressed. For direct care providers, failing to report serious incidents can carry legal consequences for both the employer and the individual provider.

The course aims to equip learners with the skills to identify different types of reportable incidents, document them properly, and recognize signs that an individual may be at risk of exploitation, abuse, or neglect.

• Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease: In this training course, you will explore the various types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability that significantly impacts daily life, encompassing a wide range of symptoms that will be discussed in detail throughout the course. Additionally, we will examine available treatment options and provide a variety of methods for effectively supporting the individuals in your care. By the end of the training, you will have a deeper understanding of dementia and be better prepared to assist those affected by it.
• Emergency Preparedness: In this training course, we will cover the essential elements involved in developing an emergency plan for your facility. You will learn about the key factors to consider when determining the appropriate actions to take in various emergency situations. Throughout the course, we will explore what is expected during an emergency, including roles and responsibilities, communication strategies, and effective response protocols.

CPR/FA

Research has shown that effective first aid and CPR can be crucial in the first few minutes after an emergency, underscoring the importance of having a solid understanding of first aid and CPR skills. This knowledge can truly be the difference between life and death in critical situations. In this course, we will examine a variety of scenarios where first aid and CPR may be necessary, equipping you with the skills to respond confidently and competently. Furthermore, we will discuss essential steps to take while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive, ensuring that you are prepared to provide immediate assistance and maintain the safety of everyone involved. By the end of the course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of first aid and CPR techniques and the confidence to apply them effectively, making you a vital resource in emergency situations.
